Hello, Friends,
We’re bundling a few video updates together for you to enjoy for the weekend. Brian recently created the mushrooms in the video above. The mushroom caps are made from whale's tooth ivory and the stems are fossilized walrus tusk. The beetle is brown horn with brass legs, and the base is a hemlock knot.
Here’s another recent creation:
A fellow contacted Brian about making him a fish spike, so he said, "Yes… what's a fish spike?" The fellow wanted an octopus, and Brian added the skull. The eyes of the octopus are triple inlaid: walrus ivory for the whites and horn for the irises, and baleen for the pupils. The blade is 3/16 stainless steel that Brian turned on a lathe with a file. The blade is banded with silver. The moose antler is stained with walnut tea that Brian made from the husks of the nut. The scabbard is rosewood with silver bands and the loop in buffalo hide.
On a more practical level, Brian finished the outhouse for his camp site:
You may remember that a while back we publish this video on how to hand-hew the beams for the outhouse:
And finally:
This little cub is carved from antique walrus tusk, his eyes and nose are inlayed baleen.
What’s cool about the walrus is that he is carved out of fossilized walrus tusk and the color is natural. Brian added a little walnut tea to pop the details but that caramel color is from the aging process. Brian also added the tusks.
Thanks for bring part of the Original Tribe!
Your friends,
Brian & Max
